Influencer and podcaster Sophie Le Touche recently reflected on her journey of self-discovery and her experience coming out at the age of 31. During a recent visit to her alma mater, Castletroy College in Limerick, she spoke to students about her career and the importance of representation in the LGBTQ+ community.

Le Touche, who describes her upbringing as unconventional, grew up with two sisters and one brother from different parents. She expressed a desire for more visible representation during her school years, suggesting that it might have helped her understand her sexuality sooner. “I wish I had that sort of representation in school,” she shared. “I stereotyped lesbians as looking a certain way, and I never saw representation for a feminine lesbian growing up.”

Coming out has been a transformative experience for Le Touche. She emphasized that embracing her identity has allowed her to envision a future filled with possibilities, including marriage and family. “Now I cannot wait for the day I get married and possibly have kids,” she said, revealing plans to freeze her eggs in January. “I was just happy thinking I was going to be alone forever.”

Le Touche’s journey has not been without challenges. A traumatic dog bite at the age of two left her with a visible scar, which led to bullying during her school years. Despite these experiences, she found strength in her uniqueness. “Scars are tattoos with better stories,” she noted, reflecting on her journey to self-acceptance.

Career and Influences

In addition to her personal journey, Le Touche has built a diverse career. She began working at a young age, collecting glasses at a local pub and later washing hair at a hair salon. Her foray into fashion began at Brown Thomas, where she explored her passion for makeup and styling. “Fashion means everything to me,” she stated. “It’s not from a vanity point of view but from an expressive point of view.”

Le Touche returned to education in her early twenties, studying marketing and currently pursuing a degree in artificial intelligence. She believes AI will be a significant force in shaping the future, stating, “Mark my words, AI is the new industrial revolution.”

Her popularity on social media emerged organically, largely due to her podcast, Fur Coat No Nickers, which featured human interest stories. Although she enjoys her role as an influencer, Le Touche maintains that it is a hobby rather than a career goal. She expressed concerns about the impact of commercial interests on authenticity in social media.

Future Aspirations

Looking ahead, Le Touche hopes to expand her presence in television. She previously appeared on the dating show Pulling with my Parents in 2019, which showcased her comfort in front of the camera. “I was very comfortable on screen,” she remarked, hinting at a desire for more television opportunities.

Sophie Le Touche’s journey is a testament to the power of self-acceptance and representation. By sharing her experiences, she not only inspires others but also emphasizes the importance of visibility for those navigating their own identities. As she embarks on this new chapter of her life, her story resonates with many who seek to embrace their true selves.
