RTE Considers Laura Fox as Replacement for Dancing with the Stars Co-Host
RTE is reportedly considering Laura Fox as a potential co-host for the next season of Dancing with the Stars, which is expected to return in January 2024. The network has not confirmed plans for a ninth series, but insiders suggest that preparations are already underway. The speculation arises as current co-host Doireann Garrihy is preparing for the arrival of her first child with her husband, podcaster Mark Meighan.
Sources indicate that RTE executives are keen on Fox due to her engaging personality and prior experience in television. A station insider stated, “Word is RTE and production company Shinawil are eyeing up Laura to host Dancing with the Stars alongside Jennifer Zamparelli. Laura really fits the bill. She’s lively, bubbly, fun, and she has really proved herself as a solid TV presenter on shows like Ireland’s Fittest Family.”
Fox, who has previously participated as a contestant on the show, could bring a unique perspective to the hosting role. Her experience on the dance floor may enhance her interactions with contestants during the show. The insider added, “Laura really is an all-rounder and the perfect fit to take over from Doireann while she is on maternity leave.”
While Fox appears to be the frontrunner, there is also ongoing speculation about a possible return for former host Nicky Byrne, a member of the band Westlife. Although Byrne’s comeback is being discussed, sources believe Fox is more likely to be selected for the position.
RTE has not responded to inquiries regarding the co-hosting decision but has previously stated that the commissioning process for the new series will take place in due course.
Garrihy, who has been a key figure on the show since its inception, announced her pregnancy in April 2024 via social media, sharing her joy with followers through a heartfelt post. The couple captured their excitement in a baby scan photo, stating, “We are beside ourselves with joy. Here’s to the greatest chapter yet.”
As Garrihy and Meighan prepare for their new family addition, they are enjoying some downtime in Spain, where Garrihy has shared glimpses of her pregnancy journey with fans. Her recent social media posts reflect a mix of enthusiasm and gratitude as they embrace the changes ahead.
The ongoing developments regarding the new season of Dancing with the Stars highlight the dynamic nature of television programming, particularly in adapting to personal milestones in the lives of its hosts. As RTE evaluates its options, the audience awaits the official announcements that will shape this beloved show’s future.
