TG4 Seeks Donegal Stories for New Season of ‘Moving West’

A new season of the acclaimed television series Moving West is set to feature stories from Donegal and other counties in Ireland. TG4, in collaboration with the Western Development Commission (WDC), has announced the return of this popular series, hosted by the well-known broadcaster Mary Kennedy. The fourth season will focus on the rich cultural heritage and innovative spirit of seven counties in the West and Northwest of Ireland, including Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon, Galway, and Clare.
Produced by Dundara Television and Media, this season aims to showcase the dynamic initiatives and community-driven projects that are shaping the future of these regions. The series will emphasize cultural preservation, rural enterprises, and innovative solutions to challenges faced by local communities.
Allan Mulrooney, CEO of the WDC, highlighted the passion and creativity evident in these communities. He stated, “Across the West and Northwest, communities are stepping up with passion, pride, and creativity to shape a vibrant future rooted in place. We are proud to support a series that not only celebrates these incredible efforts but also inspires others to see the potential in their own localities.”
Individuals, groups, organizations, and businesses from the featured counties are now invited to share their stories for consideration in the series. The producers particularly seek stories from those who have chosen to call these areas home and contribute positively to their communities. The call for submissions welcomes narratives related to revitalizing local heritage, leading community initiatives, driving rural innovation, and fostering collaboration for a better future.
Mary Kennedy expressed her enthusiasm for hosting the series again, saying, “This series is a heartfelt celebration of the people and places that make Ireland’s western counties so special. I’m honoured to return as host and to share these uplifting stories of resilience, pride, and creativity.”
Enda Grace, Producer and Director of Moving West, added, “We are delighted to return with Season 4. Every year we’re inspired by the people we meet, from returners discovering their roots to families starting fresh and entrepreneurs building something new. We’re looking for stories that are personal, powerful, and full of hope for what life in the West can be.”
Those interested in participating can apply or nominate someone to be featured in the series. The deadline for submissions is August 15, 2024, at 17:00. For more information and to submit a story, visit the official application page.
The return of Moving West promises to shine a light on the vibrant communities of Ireland’s West and Northwest, celebrating their unique contributions to the cultural landscape of the nation.
