Celebrity chef Donal Skehan was rushed to the Mater Hospital in Dublin for emergency surgery after being diagnosed with appendicitis. The incident occurred on Sunday while Skehan was preparing dinner at his home in Howth, where he lives with his wife, Sofie Skehan, and their two sons, Oscar and Noah.
Skehan first felt discomfort while cooking a family meal for ten, which he described as a “pain that got worse and worse.” Recognizing the severity of his symptoms, he sought medical attention and was admitted to A&E, where doctors confirmed the need for an appendectomy to remove his inflamed appendix.
In a message to his followers on Instagram, Skehan expressed gratitude for the support he received, stating, “Well I’ve now learned all I need to know about the appendix and appendicitis.” He shared that the last 24 hours had been a whirlwind, noting, “Had the opp [appendectomy] last night to have it removed.”
Skehan’s sense of humor remained intact as he joked about his condition, saying, “Thankful to have caught it early. I hope it wasn’t the sticky toffee pud.” He thanked the staff at the Mater Hospital for their care, reassuring fans that he is on the road to recovery.
As a prominent figure in the culinary world, Skehan’s health update has sparked an outpouring of well-wishes from fans and colleagues alike. He concluded his message by thanking everyone for their “lovely messages,” emphasizing the importance of early detection in health matters.
