Young Fan Collapses on Stage During Katy Perry Concert in Detroit

A young fan collapsed on stage during a Katy Perry concert in Detroit on March 10, 2024, after being invited to join the singer for a performance. The incident occurred around 22:20 at the Little Caesar’s Arena, where Perry called three fans up to play maracas during her song.
According to eyewitness Alexandria Cross, a 34-year-old pharmacy technician from Flushing, Michigan, Perry made the unusual choice of selecting a fan from the farthest section of the venue. “She turned out the lights in the stadium. She saw her blue skirt and pointed her out from way at the top, very back row,” Cross said. It was a rare moment, as she noted, “I’ve never seen anybody get chosen that far back.”
As the young fan made her way down to the stage, Perry paused her performance to wait for her arrival. “She waited the whole time that the kid came down; the kid had to take an elevator,” Cross explained. “She did not think that she was ever going to get chosen.” Once the fan reached the stage, accompanied by a friend, the crowd erupted in cheers. However, Cross observed that the girl appeared visibly nervous.
“She was very shy,” Cross added. “She was very, very timid, and she got on the stage. She obviously was super excited, but very stiff.” Perry attempted to reassure the overwhelmed fan, encouraging her to stand close by and giving her a shaker.
Just before the song began, the situation took a dramatic turn when Perry offered a final pep talk. “Katy wanted her to feel confident, saying, ‘you got this.’” Unfortunately, moments later, the girl fainted and collapsed on stage.
Initial attempts to assist her were made by band members before emergency medical services arrived. “There were six people or so that were all around her, trying to get her to wake up,” Cross reported. “They couldn’t get her to wake up. So four or five of them kind of lifted her up.” The girl’s mother, who had rushed down from the upper section, joined the team on stage as the unconscious fan was carried off.
Perry paused her performance to pray for the young fan before continuing with her set. Later in the show, she provided an update, reassuring the audience that the girl was doing much better. Cross noted, “She was very concerned about her throughout, which was super sweet.”
This incident serves as a reminder of the unexpected moments that can occur during live performances, highlighting the emotional connection between artists and their fans.
