Daniel O’Donnell has provided a positive health update, expressing that he is feeling “great” after managing recent allergy issues that prompted him to adjust his touring schedule for next year. The renowned country music artist plans to limit his performances in 2024, taking necessary time off to address his health needs.

In an interview with Independent.ie, O’Donnell stated, “I’m great, thank you. I had a bit of an allergy issue earlier… but I’m fairly good with it.” He is currently taking medication to alleviate his allergy symptoms, though he expressed a desire to eventually reduce his reliance on it to better understand his condition.

Future Engagements and Modest Touring Plans

Despite the adjustments, O’Donnell confirmed that he has upcoming performances lined up. He mentioned plans to record another series of “Opry le Daniel” in June at the Millennium Forum in Derry. He will also participate in the Mary from Dungloe Festival and has been booked for Gertrude Byrne’s All-Star Irish Cruise in 2024, which has already sold out, with 27 sailings planned from Rome to Barcelona.

O’Donnell emphasized that he intends to take a more measured approach to his touring schedule, stating, “I’m not going to go back to the extensive touring like I did before.” He plans to limit himself to approximately 20 shows, with performances starting in early September in Killarney, followed by a few shows in the UK and the US.

Reflections on Health and Longevity

Addressing recent speculation about his health, O’Donnell pointed out that reports suggesting serious health issues were exaggerated. He mentioned that similar unfounded claims were made about fellow performers, including Engelbert Humperdinck and Cliff Richard, reinforcing the notion that he was not alone in facing such rumors. “I feel blessed with my health. I’m lucky, there’s no doubt about it,” he remarked.

O’Donnell also reflected on his family history, noting that his mother lived until she was almost 95 years old. He attributed some of his longevity to her genes, stating, “She just got old. She didn’t get sick.” He shared his thoughts on living a balanced life, suggesting that moderation plays a significant role in maintaining good health. “I don’t know if I’ve learnt any wisdoms. I suppose: do as much as you want, but don’t overdo it,” he advised.

As he navigates his health challenges and modifies his performance schedule, O’Donnell remains optimistic about the future and looks forward to reconnecting with fans while prioritizing his well-being.
