Donegal Residents Encouraged to Join HSE’s Winter Vaccination Drive

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is urging residents of Donegal to participate in its winter vaccination programme. As of October 1, 2025, the initiative offers free flu vaccines to specified groups, alongside COVID-19 vaccinations for individuals aged 60 and over, as well as children aged six months and older who have weakened immune systems.
Both the flu and COVID-19 vaccines are available through local pharmacies and general practitioners (GPs). Vaccination teams will also visit residential care facilities, including nursing homes, to administer both vaccines to residents and housebound patients.
Health Officials Stress Importance of Vaccination
Dr. Áine McNamara, the Regional Director of Public Health for the HSE West and North West region, emphasizes the importance of receiving these vaccines. She stated that vaccination is the most effective means of reducing the risk of serious illness, hospitalization, and death associated with these viruses.
“We strongly encourage everyone who is eligible for the flu and COVID-19 vaccines to take advantage of this opportunity,” Dr. McNamara added. “Vaccination not only protects individuals but also contributes to community immunity.”
The HSE’s winter vaccination programme is part of a broader public health strategy aimed at safeguarding vulnerable populations during the colder months. Health officials are particularly concerned about the potential for increased illness during this time, making vaccination even more critical.
For more information on eligibility and vaccination locations, residents are advised to visit the HSE’s official website at hse.ie.
