Food Safety Authority Recalls Salad Products Over Listeria Risk

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has announced a recall affecting various batches of salad products due to the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes. This recall, issued on August 30, 2025, includes spinach, mixed leaves, and other salad items sold under the McCormack Family Farms and Egan’s brands. Consumers are urged to avoid these items as a precautionary measure.
The FSAI reports that there is currently no evidence linking this food recall to the ongoing investigation into a listeriosis outbreak associated with ready-to-heat meals. Despite the lack of direct connection, the authority is taking proactive steps to ensure public safety.
Symptoms of a Listeria monocytogenes infection can range from mild flu-like signs to gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In severe cases, particularly among vulnerable groups, complications can arise. Those at higher risk include pregnant women, infants, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. The incubation period can vary significantly, typically averaging around three weeks, but it can extend from three to 70 days.
The implicated products were distributed to several popular supermarket chains, including Aldi and Dunnes Stores. Consumers who have purchased these products are advised not to consume them. The FSAI has provided detailed information regarding the specific products and batch numbers involved in this recall, allowing consumers to identify the affected items easily.
Public health officials are reminding consumers to remain vigilant and report any adverse symptoms that may arise after consuming these products. The FSAI continues to monitor the situation closely and urges individuals to prioritize their health and safety by adhering to the recall notice.
