Lauren Scully Reveals Key Weight Loss Mistakes to Avoid

Online coach Lauren Scully has identified a critical mistake that many individuals make during their weight loss journeys. The Dublin-based personal trainer has gained significant popularity on social media platforms, including Instagram and TikTok, where she shares insights and tips to simplify the process of achieving fitness goals.
According to Scully, the most prevalent error is viewing weight loss as a temporary diet rather than a sustainable lifestyle change. In an interview with RSVP Live, she emphasized the importance of developing habits that can be maintained long-term. “The biggest mistake is when people see it as a diet instead of a lifestyle change,” she explained. “We are made up of our habits, so if you follow a plan that you don’t like or is too restrictive until you reach your goal weight, you’re going to reach that goal weight, and because you didn’t enjoy the process, you’ll be dying to stop those habits.”
Scully’s advice stems from both her professional qualifications and personal experience. She recalled her own struggles with extreme dieting and subsequent weight gain before finding a healthier approach to fitness. “My whole goal is to teach girls how to lose weight slowly, enjoying the foods they actually want to eat and not being afraid of food,” she stated. “There’s so much information online that makes people scared to eat. But you can eat normal food—we make spaghetti bolognese, curries, and burgers.”
Emphasizing Enjoyment in the Process
Lauren Scully has become a trusted figure in the realm of online fitness coaching, largely due to her viral videos that provide practical weight loss tips. She encourages her followers to make healthier food choices without becoming overly fixated on tracking every calorie. “You only have to track your meals for a while at the start, and then you have a benchmark for what you’re usually eating,” she advised.
Her method involves creating a balanced plate of food, incorporating sources of protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates, while ensuring ample servings of vegetables. Scully believes that simplicity is key. “What I encourage my girls to do is keep things as simple as possible. If they fall off track, they just need to win their next meal,” she noted. This approach allows for flexibility, even when dining out, highlighting that one meal does not dictate overall success.
Scully warns against viewing food in binary terms—good or bad—stating that such a mindset can lead to setbacks in one’s weight loss journey. Instead, she advocates for a more balanced relationship with food, which she believes is crucial for long-term success.
As her online presence continues to grow, Scully finds herself increasingly recognized in public. “I think it’s crazy,” she remarked about her newfound fame. “When I go to the shops, people are coming up and asking for pictures. It’s so weird, because the videos are just me talking in my house about normal stuff!”
For those interested in her coaching services, Scully’s programs can be accessed through her official website, where she offers details on her Lean With Lauren coaching initiative.
Lauren Scully’s insights serve as a reminder that weight loss is not merely about numbers on a scale, but about fostering a positive and enjoyable relationship with food and exercise. By shifting the focus from restrictive dieting to sustainable habits, individuals may find greater success in their health and fitness endeavors.
