Limerick Seeks Blood Donations as Hot Weather Reduces Supplies
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) has raised an urgent call for blood donations in Limerick as a recent heatwave has resulted in a significant decline in contributions. The organization is encouraging residents to take a brief break from summer activities to help save lives, highlighting the critical need for blood supplies in hospitals.
According to Alex O’Connor, a recruitment executive at IBTS, the demand for blood from Irish hospitals remains high. “Your donation can help ensure patients continue to get the blood they urgently need,” O’Connor stated. He emphasized that while the sunny weather may be enticing, the entire donation process takes less than an hour and can make a profound impact for those in need.
Upcoming Blood Donation Clinics
IBTS has scheduled several blood donation clinics to accommodate new and returning donors. These events will take place at two locations in Limerick:
– **Castletroy Park Hotel** on **August 25** and **August 26**, from **16:20 to 19:40**.
– **Devon Inn Templeglantine** on **August 27** and **August 28**, from **16:50 to 20:10**.
All blood types are needed, with particular emphasis on O negative, A positive, and AB negative. Each unit of blood donated can save or significantly improve the lives of up to three individuals.
The IBTS has highlighted the importance of community involvement in maintaining adequate blood supplies, especially during warmer months when donations typically decline. The organization urges individuals to consider taking a short time out of their day to contribute to this essential service.
To schedule an appointment, potential donors can call 1800 222 111. Every donation is a step toward ensuring that those in need receive timely medical care, reinforcing the vital role that local communities play in healthcare.
The IBTS appreciates the continued support of the public and remains hopeful that Limerick residents will respond generously during this critical period.
