SymPhysis Medical Secures €1.1 Million Grant for Cancer Device
SymPhysis Medical, a medtech company based in Galway, has secured a significant grant of €1.1 million to further develop a cancer treatment device aimed at the United States market. The funding, awarded through the Rhode Island Life Science Hub, will facilitate advancements in the company’s Releaze Drainage System, designed to address the challenges associated with malignant pleural effusion.
The Releaze Drainage System is intended to alleviate the complications of fluid accumulation in the chest, a common issue faced by patients with advanced cancers. This complication can lead to severe breathlessness and pain, significantly affecting the quality of life and often necessitating frequent hospital visits. SymPhysis Medical is optimistic that their innovative device will provide substantial relief to affected patients.
€1.1 million will support key initiatives, including assembling a dedicated team in the United States, completing necessary testing, and progressing towards regulatory approval. The company remains committed to its roots, maintaining its headquarters in Galway, where the Releaze device was developed in collaboration with Irish clinicians, nurses, patients, and caregivers.
SymPhysis Medical’s achievement highlights the growing importance of medtech innovations in cancer treatment. As the company moves forward with its plans, it aims not only to improve patient outcomes but also to make a significant impact on the healthcare landscape in the United States. The support from the Rhode Island Life Science Hub underscores the potential of the Releaze Drainage System to change lives.
With this funding, SymPhysis Medical is poised to take critical steps that could reshape cancer care, emphasizing the role of local innovations in addressing global health challenges.
