Urgent Food Recall in Ireland: Major Brands Withdraw Products

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued an urgent recall of several food products sold in major supermarkets due to serious health concerns. Customers are advised to check their fridges and pantries for affected items that may pose health risks. The recalled products are available in popular retail chains including Dunnes, Lidl, and SuperValu.

In a comprehensive announcement, the FSAI urged retailers to remove the impacted batches from their shelves and display recall notices at points of sale. The warnings follow the detection of harmful bacteria and excessive levels of a food additive in various products.

Key Products Under Recall

Among the items recalled is the Café Sol Pesto Pasta and Chicken, produced by Freshways. This product, weighing 224 grams, has been withdrawn due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The affected batch has a use-by date of September 25, 2025. The FSAI highlighted that Listeria infection can lead to symptoms such as mild flu-like indications and gastrointestinal issues, including nausea and vomiting. Vulnerable groups, such as pregnant women, infants, and individuals with weakened immune systems, face a higher risk of severe complications from this bacteria.

The FSAI also announced the recall of Toxic Waste Sour Slushy Freeze and Squeeze products due to elevated levels of glycerol, which may lead to headaches and vomiting in young children. Glycerol is an approved food additive in the European Union, utilized in slush drinks to maintain texture. Although no maximum level is designated for its use in flavored beverages, excessive intake can pose health risks, particularly for children.

Allergen Alerts and Consumer Safety

In addition to the recalls mentioned, consumers are warned against consuming Lidl’s Healthy Fit Hazelnut Nougat Vegan Protein Bars due to improper labeling. These bars do not clearly state the presence of canola rapeseed protein isolate, which could trigger allergic reactions in those sensitive to mustard or similar products.

Furthermore, all pack sizes of Bare Pantry dark chocolate-coated items are under scrutiny as they may contain undeclared milk. This could endanger individuals with milk allergies or intolerances, prompting the FSAI to recommend that such consumers avoid these products entirely.

The FSAI emphasizes the importance of public awareness in these matters, urging consumers to act promptly and check for the specified products to maintain health safety. For further details, customers can refer to the FSAI website, which provides updated food recall information and safety alerts.
