DMG Media Ireland’s ExtraG Wins International Print-Digital Award

DMG Media Ireland’s Irish language platform, ExtraG, has received the prestigious Print-Digital Fusion Award at the WAN-Ifra Sustainability and Print Innovation Awards held in Munich. This accolade recognizes the platform’s innovative approach to merging print and digital media, highlighting its significant contribution to promoting the Irish language.
ExtraG.ie, an extension of the widely popular Extra.ie website, aims to make everyday Irish accessible to a diverse audience. The site has been officially recognized as a medium for the Irish language by the Office of An Coimisinéir Teanga. Earlier this year, DMG Media further expanded its Irish language offerings with the launch of ExtraG Gach Seachtain, a weekly supplement featured in the Irish Daily Mail.
Recognizing Excellence in Media
The WAN-Ifra Awards are esteemed within the global media industry, celebrating excellence and innovation in publishing and journalism. ExtraG shared this year’s award with the Malaysian Straits Times. Award organizers commended ExtraG Gach Seachtain for its role in meeting legislative requirements while enhancing cultural and commercial opportunities. They noted its impact in bringing the Irish language to life for a new generation of readers.
Joe Walsh, the editor of ExtraG and ExtraG Gach Seachtain, expressed his enthusiasm for the award, describing it as “truly fantastic.” He emphasized the dedication of the team in celebrating and promoting the Irish language through engaging content.
Paul Henderson, CEO of DMG Media Ireland, highlighted the platform’s success in delivering popular stories in a modern, accessible format. “It’s the content people want — news, entertainment, sport,” he stated, reinforcing the platform’s mission to appeal to a broad audience.
Acknowledging Cultural Contributions
The awards ceremony took place during the annual World Printers Summit in Munich, where leaders in three key categories—reader engagement, the fusion of print and digital, and advertising creativity—were honored. This recognition not only underscores the importance of innovation in the media landscape but also highlights the cultural significance of the Irish language in contemporary publishing.
ExtraG’s achievement reflects a growing commitment to enhancing the visibility of the Irish language and addressing the evolving needs of its audience. The recognition at the WAN-Ifra Awards positions DMG Media Ireland as a leader in the media industry, fostering both cultural heritage and modern storytelling.
