Dylan Browne McMonagle Clinches 2025 Champion Flat Jockey Title
Donegal jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle has achieved a significant milestone by securing the title of the 2025 Champion Flat Jockey. His victory was confirmed following a successful day of racing in Galway, where he maintained his lead over six-time champion Colin Keane. Although the title race officially concludes at the Curragh this Sunday, Browne McMonagle has already amassed an impressive total of 95 wins this season.
Reflecting on his achievement, the 22-year-old expressed his disbelief and gratitude. “It’s pinch-myself stuff,” he stated. “From a very small age, you just dream of this. Every young jockey growing up wants to be Champion Jockey, and thankfully I am privileged to be in the position I am, riding the horses I am,” he told Horse Racing Ireland.
Browne McMonagle acknowledged the support he received throughout his career, particularly from trainer Joseph O’Brien and his family. He highlighted their role in his journey, from competing in pony races to achieving this prestigious title. Having joined O’Brien’s stable at the age of 16, Browne McMonagle previously earned the title of champion apprentice in both 2021 and 2022.
Looking ahead, he praised his rival Colin Keane for his contribution to the sport. “He’s an absolute gentleman and a role model for all of us in the weight room, and he sets the standard high,” Browne McMonagle remarked. “Without guys like Colin in there, you wouldn’t be the same. You have to be on your toes and keep on improving,” he added.
As the season draws to a close, the excitement surrounding Browne McMonagle’s achievement underscores the competitive nature of horse racing in Ireland. With the official title presentation approaching, the young jockey remains focused on maintaining his momentum and preparing for future challenges.
