Frankie Dettori marked a remarkable comeback by winning four races in a single day at the Kentucky Downs on March 9, 2025. Just two weeks after the unexpected death of his close friend, Duncan, Dettori dedicated his achievements to his late companion, revealing how the loss had initially made him contemplate retirement. The 54-year-old rider had previously moved to the United States at the end of 2023 to continue his career after postponing his retirement, but victories had not come as frequently as during his celebrated 35-year tenure in the United Kingdom.

Dettori’s day began with a stunning performance aboard Wimbledon Hawkeye, a horse owned by former Newmarket neighbor Tim Gredley, in the £2.6 million Nashville Derby. Following his victory, he shared on social media, “I’m in total shock, RIP Big Dunc. I love you.” He later explained to FanDuel Racing that Duncan’s strength and encouragement were pivotal in his decision to continue racing. “If it wasn’t for his strength, I don’t think I’d be riding here this week. I’m doing it for him. He would want me to carry on, and here we are,” he stated.

The following day, Dettori’s success continued as he piloted Johnny’s Red Storm, Banjo Chris, Barricade, and Tickin Time Blonde to victory. His first win came in the feature race, which was worth £740,000, underscoring his exceptional talent on the turf.

Commenting on Dettori’s spectacular performance, Pat Cooney from bet365 noted on social media, “4 winners in a day at @KYDownsRacing for Frankie Dettori, 10/1, 9/1, 6/1 and the big race worth $1 million on the 6/4 favourite. You never lose it! Dread to think how expensive it would have been for us @bet365 if it had been in the UK in his prime!”

Dettori’s four wins not only highlighted his enduring prowess but also served as an emotional tribute to a cherished friend. As he continues to navigate his career in the United States, this recent success may signal a revitalization for the celebrated jockey, reminding fans and competitors alike of his extraordinary skills and resilience.
