A GoFundMe campaign launched for 19-year-old Bobby Halligan, a talented singer from Wexford, has quickly raised over €10,000 within hours of its initiation. The fundraiser, organized by Joanne Whitty, aims to support Halligan, who currently resides in a care home and requires 24-hour care following a serious incident that left him with a significant brain injury.

Bobby Halligan, known for his captivating performances, especially his rendition of “Rattlin Bog,” was admitted to the ICU at Wexford General Hospital on October 19, 2024. He was placed in an induced coma as medical staff battled to stabilize his condition. After four weeks, he was moved to St. Mary’s Ward in Wexford, where he spent both Christmas Day and his 19th birthday surrounded by loved ones and dedicated caregivers.

The results of Bobby’s MRI revealed a devastating brain injury, profoundly affecting his awareness and overall quality of life. Currently, he is classified as being in a disorder of consciousness and requires a PEG feeding tube for nutrition. Whitty expressed the emotional toll of the situation, stating, “These circumstances are devastating.”

In March 2025, Bobby was transferred to the National Rehabilitation Hospital, where he made significant strides in his recovery. With the support of the staff, he worked diligently to regain the ability to breathe independently. By September 2025, he returned to a care home in Wexford, where the team continues to provide exceptional support.

Despite the family’s hopes for a full recovery, they now face substantial costs for the specialized therapies and treatments Bobby needs. The funds raised through the GoFundMe campaign will be allocated directly to these expenses, ensuring that he receives the best possible care. “Bobby is known to give a helping hand to everyone around him and now it is our turn to help him,” Whitty emphasized.

The community’s response has been overwhelming, with many individuals eager to contribute to Bobby’s care. The GoFundMe page remains open for donations, providing an opportunity for those who wish to support his journey toward improved health and well-being.
