Jane O’Brien and Shane Crotty recently celebrated their wedding in a picturesque ceremony that spanned from Sydney, Australia, to their hometown in County Waterford, Ireland. The couple, who first crossed paths over a decade ago, got engaged at Watsons Bay in Sydney on December 28, 2023, before tying the knot in St Augustine’s Church, Abbeyside, Dungarvan.

From Courtship to Celebration

Jane, originally from Grange near Ardmore, and Shane, from Abbeyside, first met while studying business at Cork Institute of Technology. “We first met 11 years ago in college when we both completed the same course,” Jane shared. After nearly a year of living together in Australia, Shane chose the couple’s favorite spot, Watsons Bay, to propose, surprising Jane with a romantic gesture just before they returned home.

On their wedding day, the couple was met with a joyful welcome from their local GAA clubs, with members from Ardmore and Abbeyside/Ballinacourty forming a guard of honour as they exited the church. Following the ceremony, they captured beautiful moments along Abbeyside’s beach and boardwalk, photographed by Shane O’Neill of Aspect Photography.

A Day Filled with Joy

The reception took place at the Maryborough Hotel & Spa in Cork, where family and friends gathered to toast the newlyweds. Jane’s parents, Breda and Kieran O’Brien, along with Shane’s mother and father, Norma and Shane Crotty, and his grandmother, Biddy Hourigan, expressed their happiness for the couple’s future together.

Jane selected her sister, Olive O’Donnell, as her maid of honour, supported by her sister April O’Donoghue and friends Niamh Kiely and Michelle O’Sullivan as bridesmaids. The couple’s nieces, Muireann Morris and Ava O’Donoghue, served as flower girls, while Jack O’Brien was the pageboy. Shane’s brother, Josh Crotty, took on the role of best man, accompanied by friends Stephen Kearney, Maurice Power, and Patrick Houlihan as groomsmen.

Reflecting on the day, Jane said, “It was an amazing day from start to finish, emphasising joy, connection, and celebration with loved ones. We absolutely had the best weekend, and the weather was amazing too. Knowing everyone was there for us made it so special.”

Jane looked elegant in a custom dress from AL Bridal Couture, purchased at the Say I Do bridal boutique in Midleton, County Cork. Shane complemented her look in a stylish suit from Red Church in Cork, while the groomsmen were outfitted by Devereux Manshop in Dungarvan. The bridal party’s hair was styled by Jenny O’Donnell Maher from New Images, and makeup was provided by Edel Morrissey Beauty & Bridal.

The floral arrangements were crafted by Claudia Czerny at Blossom & Berry Flowers in Lismore, County Waterford, with the videography handled by Memory Lane Wedding Films. After celebrating their union, the couple plans to honeymoon in South Africa, marking the beginning of their new journey together.
