Kilkenny Honors Community Leaders at 2025 KKB Awards Ceremony
The annual Keep Kilkenny Beautiful (KKB) Awards celebrated local achievements in environmental and community efforts last week at Langton’s Hotel in Kilkenny. The event recognized individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the beautification and sustainability of the area.
Maurice O’Connor, a well-known figure from Community Radio Kilkenny City, served as the master of ceremonies. He guided attendees through the evening, which featured a keynote address by Bernadette Moloney, the Biodiversity Officer with Kilkenny County Council. Moloney’s address highlighted the importance of community engagement in environmental initiatives and the role that local residents play in fostering sustainable practices.
The awards were presented by various local dignitaries, with Maria Dollard, Chairperson of KKB, leading the ceremony. Among the standout recognitions was the “Hero of our Community” award, which was presented to Pat Durkan for his exceptional dedication to local initiatives. The Fitzpatrick Shield for Community Effort was awarded to the Kilkenny Sub-Aqua Club, acknowledging their commitment to preserving local aquatic environments.
The KKB Awards not only celebrate individual achievements but also aim to inspire further community involvement in local beautification projects. The event attracted a diverse audience, reflecting Kilkenny’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community spirit.
As Kilkenny continues to prioritize sustainability, events like the KKB Awards showcase the collective efforts of residents and organizations working together to create a more beautiful and environmentally friendly community.
