Kilkenny Native Katelyn Cummins Honored with Civic Reception

A special reception will be held to honor Katelyn Cummins, the Kilkenny native who was crowned the International Rose of Tralee. The Laois County Council has decided to award her its highest distinction, a Civic Reception, in recognition of her achievement. The event will take place at the council chambers, although a specific date has yet to be finalized.
The proposal for the Civic Reception was put forward by Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley and seconded by Cllr John King during the council meeting in September. This occasion will feature a formal citation and will be attended by Cummins’ family, supporters, and members of the council management.
Katelyn Cummins won the prestigious title of Rose of Tralee in August 2023. Since then, she has expressed her commitment to promoting alternative career paths for women, particularly through her own choice of pursuing an electrical apprenticeship. Currently, Cummins works at Alpha Drives in Portlaoise and is preparing for her international responsibilities as the Rose of Tralee.
The 20-year-old, who hails from Ballyouskill in Kilkenny, is not only dedicated to her professional development but is also a talented dancer and farmhand. Since becoming the Rose of Tralee, she has participated in various events across Laois and Ireland, including the Electric Picnic, the National Ploughing Championships, and the Lovely Laois Homecoming Festival.
As she embarks on her journey representing the Rose of Tralee, Cummins aims to inspire young women to explore diverse career options. Her commitment to this cause is evident in her active engagement in community events and initiatives that highlight the importance of vocational training and professional growth for women.
The upcoming Civic Reception not only recognizes Cummins’ individual achievements but also underscores the broader message of empowerment and career exploration for young women throughout the region. As she prepares for her international duties, Katelyn Cummins serves as a role model, demonstrating that success comes in many forms and can be pursued through unconventional paths.
