In a remarkable achievement for Laois, Katelyn Cummins has been crowned the 2025 International Rose of Tralee. This significant milestone makes her the first-ever Laois winner of this esteemed title. The announcement was made during the festival held in Tralee, County Kerry, which celebrates young women from around the world.

Katelyn, a 20-year-old apprentice electrician from the village of Ballyouskill, is not only a proud representative of her county but also an active member of North Kilkenny Macra. Balancing her apprenticeship at Alpha Drives with responsibilities on her family’s dairy farm, she exemplifies the spirit of determination and leadership. Her vibrant performance of a jive dance during the event captured the audience’s attention and showcased her commitment to challenging stereotypes in traditionally male-dominated fields.

A Voice for Young Women

During her onstage interview, Katelyn emphasised the importance of confidence for young women, urging them to pursue their passions. Her message resonated well beyond the event, inspiring many who followed her journey online. Josephine O’Neill, President of Macra, expressed her pride in Katelyn’s accomplishments, stating, “As North Kilkenny Macra chairperson, Katelyn has long demonstrated her passion for Macra. It was wonderful to see Katelyn speak of Macra on such a national platform. We wish her well on her journey as Rose of Tralee for the next year and look forward to seeing her at Macra events along the way.”

Alongside Katelyn, the Wexford Rose, Clíona O’Leary, also received commendations for her representation of Wexford Macra. As a National Council Representative, Clíona has consistently championed her county, and her participation in the festival further showcased the talents and aspirations of young women from rural Ireland.

Celebrating Achievements and Participation

Macra extends congratulations to all of its members who participated in this year’s festival, including those who served as escorts. The organisation is proud of Katelyn and Clíona for their exceptional representation of their communities and for serving as role models for young women in rural areas across Ireland.

As Katelyn embarks on her year as the Rose of Tralee, her journey will undoubtedly inspire many, proving that with passion and dedication, young women can break barriers and achieve great success.
