Limerick Choir Invites New Members to Open Night in September
The Curraghgower Singers, a community choir based in Limerick, is hosting an open night on September 15 for individuals interested in joining the group. Directed by Timothy Schinnick, the choir meets weekly at Lisnagry National School and is welcoming members from across the city and county.
The choir rehearses every Monday evening from 19:10 to 21:30, with a break for socializing over tea or coffee. A spokesperson for the choir emphasized their commitment to fostering a friendly atmosphere. “We are a group of people who love to sing, and we invite anyone who shares this passion to join us,” they stated.
Participation in the choir offers not only the opportunity to perform but also to contribute to various charitable causes. Each year, the choir engages in numerous choral events while raising essential funds for organizations such as Enable Ireland, the Rape Crisis Centre, and the Adare Branch of the Irish Red Cross.
In the past, the Curraghgower Singers have enjoyed memorable performances, including a successful Christmas event at Holy Trinity Church in Adare, described as a “Dickensian Festival of Carols, Lessons, and Poetry.” The spokesperson noted, “We had great fun dressing up in our bonnets and top hats for the occasion.”
A highlight of the choir’s calendar includes participation in the Annual Wild Geese Festival, an event organized by Dr. Loïc Guyon, the Honorary Consul of France. Additionally, the choir takes part in the National Day of Commemoration Ceremony at Limerick City Hall, a solemn event that features many ex-servicemen.
While the choir’s primary focus is on music, social activities also play a significant role in their community spirit. Each November, members travel to The Rose Hotel in Tralee for a Choral Training Weekend, filled with practice sessions and camaraderie.
The open night on September 15 at Lisnagry NS is designed to be a no-pressure event, with no formal audition required. Those interested in joining are encouraged to attend and experience the welcoming environment firsthand. The Curraghgower Singers look forward to welcoming new faces to their musical family.
