Parish Celebrates Fr Jim Murphy’s 21-Year Journey at St Canice’s

St Canice’s Parish in Kilkenny marked a significant transition on October 15, 2023, as community members gathered to celebrate the conclusion of Fr Jim Murphy’s final Sunday mass. After dedicating 21 years to the parish, the event highlighted the deep bonds formed during his tenure, which spanned multiple locations including Tullaherin, Rathdowney, and Clara.
Fr Murphy’s service at St Canice’s has been characterized by a strong commitment to the community. His departure, while bittersweet, is viewed as the beginning of a new chapter in his life. He will soon relocate to Thomastown, where he will take on a chaplaincy role at Grennan College and at St Columba’s Hospital. In addition to these responsibilities, Fr Murphy will continue to serve at both Loreto and CBS Kilkenny.
The farewell ceremony attracted many residents who expressed their gratitude for Fr Murphy’s leadership and compassion. Parishioners shared memories of his involvement in community events, educational initiatives, and spiritual guidance, all of which have left a lasting impact on the local culture.
