Pregnant Woman Discovers Massive Cyst During Hospital Visit

A 26-year-old woman, 34 weeks pregnant, experienced unexpected health complications during a hospital visit. She arrived at the facility in Jakarta, Indonesia, complaining of stomach pains, only to find that a significant cyst, measuring 35 cm in diameter, was growing around her baby.

The woman had undergone an ultrasound scan six weeks earlier, which detected an ovarian cyst. However, it was not until her third trimester that the extent of the issue was fully revealed. Images released by NeedToKnow illustrated the cyst’s position, which was enveloping part of the uterus and pushing it to the side.

Upon her second hospital visit, doctors noted a decline in the baby’s growth, likely due to the cyst’s pressure on the uterus, which had shifted to the right side of the abdomen. Following this alarming discovery, medical professionals scheduled surgery to remove the cyst and safely deliver the baby.

Surgery took place four weeks later at the Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. The cyst, located on the left ovary, contained an astonishing 11 liters of fluid. Fortunately, further examination confirmed that the cyst was benign. A Caesarean section was performed to deliver a healthy baby boy weighing 5 lbs, without any complications. Remarkably, the mother recovered quickly and was discharged from the hospital shortly after.

In a separate case, parents Petru and Natalia Obada are facing their own medical challenges with their newborn daughter, Sophia. The couple, from Banbury, Oxfordshire, discovered that their baby may suffer permanent vision loss due to a rare condition.

Sophia was diagnosed with Blepharophimosis Ptosis Epicanthus Inversus Syndrome (BPES), a condition that affects eyelid development and positioning. Petru, 31, and Natalia, 32, noted that after Sophia’s birth, they became concerned when she struggled to open her eyes properly.

Medical professionals confirmed the diagnosis and informed the parents that Sophia’s condition could result in permanent vision impairment if not addressed. They are now seeking to raise funds for specialist eyelid surgery in Spain, as the procedure is necessary to prevent further complications.

So far, their GoFundMe campaign has raised approximately £8,000. However, the family is striving for additional contributions to cover the costs of travel, accommodation, and healthcare for Sophia.

Natalia’s pregnancy had been described as “perfectly normal,” just like her first pregnancy with their eldest son, David, who is now three years old and in good health.

Petru, who works as an HS2 engineer, recalled the initial days following Sophia’s birth when he noticed a concerning issue with her eyes. After consulting their general practitioner, they were referred to a pediatrician who confirmed the diagnosis.

These two stories underscore the unpredictable nature of pregnancy and childbirth, highlighting the importance of timely medical care and support for families facing complex health challenges.
