Record 505,000 Passengers Expected at Dublin Airport This Weekend

More than half a million passengers are expected to travel through Dublin Airport during the upcoming August bank holiday weekend, marking one of the busiest periods in the airport’s 85-year history. Between August 1 and August 4, 2024, approximately 505,000 passengers are forecast to transit through the airport, underscoring the ongoing surge in travel this summer.
The busiest days are projected to be Friday and Sunday, with estimates of up to 130,000 passengers travelling each day. This influx includes a significant number of tourists visiting Ireland, contributing to local economies across all 32 counties. As the summer holiday season progresses, the airport’s departure gates are set to be particularly active.
Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least two hours before short-haul flights and three hours prior to long-haul flights to ensure a smooth travel experience.
Graeme McQueen, a spokesperson for Dublin Airport, highlighted the ongoing success of the summer season, stating, “The summer is going great at Dublin Airport with the team here working hard to put smiles on the faces of the record number of passengers travelling.” He noted that the airport has been welcoming over 120,000 passengers daily, a trend expected to continue through August and into September.
The combination of strong domestic travel demand and an influx of international tourists is driving this growth. McQueen pointed out that recent terminal improvements, including new dining options like the San Marco Italian restaurant in Terminal 1 and enhanced facilities for children, have significantly enhanced the passenger experience.
“This August bank holiday is always one of the busiest weekends for us, and this year will be no different,” he added. Events such as the Rush Air Show, partnered with Dublin Airport, and the all-Ireland women’s football final at Croke Park are expected to attract many visitors.
As the airport gears up for the weekend rush, it is not only sun-seekers heading to popular destinations like Portugal and Spain. Music fans will also be travelling to the UK for major concerts, particularly those featuring the band Oasis. The upcoming UK football season will further stimulate travel, bringing vibrant energy to the terminals in the coming weeks.
Dublin Airport continues to adapt to the increasing passenger numbers while maintaining a focus on cleanliness and efficient security processes, ensuring that travelers enjoy a positive experience throughout the busy summer season.
