The annual charity lights display created by Michael and Mary Whoriskey returns this weekend, brightening the festive season in Kerrykeel. Since its inception in 2006, the couple has transformed their garden in Gortcally into a winter wonderland, raising over €124,000 for various charities.

The official switch-on of the lights will take place on November 29, 2025, at 19:30. Prior to the illumination, carol singing will commence at 19:00, followed by a special meet and greet with Santa Claus in his grotto. After the switch-on, the Whoriskey home will be aglow every evening, featuring an enchanting array of hundreds of festive figures, including Santas and snowmen.

Supporting Local Charities

This year, the Whoriskeys have chosen the Mevagh Voluntary Fire Service in Carrigart as the beneficiary of their fundraising efforts. “The service was launched 40 years ago this year, and we are delighted to facilitate this opportunity to give back to such a worthy community cause,” the couple stated.

Ollie Whoriskey, the couple’s grandson, takes on the role of Chief Lights Supervisor. He expressed satisfaction with the progress leading up to the event, noting that every light is functioning perfectly. Ollie is instrumental in ensuring that the display dazzles visitors as it has in previous years.

A Beloved Holiday Tradition

The Whoriskeys’ annual lights display has evolved into a cherished tradition for families in the area, creating a magical environment where lasting memories are formed. The enchanting atmosphere has even led to romantic engagements taking place amid the twinkling lights.

Donations to support the charity lights display can be made in person at the crib located at the Whoriskeys’ home or online through their fundraising page at https://gofund.me/31d732658. The Whoriskeys’ residence is situated at Gortcally, Kerrykeel, with the postal code F92F9W4.

As the community prepares for this festive event, the Whoriskeys continue to exemplify the spirit of giving, making this Christmas display a beacon of hope and joy during the holiday season.
