Erika Kirk has shared her emotional journey following the assassination of her husband, conservative activist Charlie Kirk, in September 2023. In a heartfelt interview with Megyn Kelly, Kirk revealed that she was “praying to God” for confirmation of her pregnancy at the time of the tragedy. The couple had expressed a desire to expand their family, having welcomed a three-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son.

Reflecting on her family’s aspirations, Kirk stated, “We wanted to have four,” emphasizing their excitement to grow together. “I was praying to God that I was pregnant when he got murdered,” she noted, describing the hope that another child would be a “blessing out of this catastrophe.”

Family and the Impact of Loss

Charlie Kirk, the leader of Turning Point USA, was shot dead while addressing students at Utah Valley University during an event for his organization. His suspected assailant, Tyler Robinson, was apprehended the following day and charged with murder. The Kirks had chosen to keep their children’s faces off social media, but Erika has spoken candidly about their emotional struggles in the wake of their father’s death.

After returning home from escorting Charlie’s casket back to Arizona, Erika recounted a poignant moment with her daughter, who asked, “Where’s daddy?” In response, she reassured her child, saying, “Daddy loves you so much. Don’t you worry. He’s on a work trip with Jesus so he can afford your blueberry budget.”

Kirk’s strength was evident when she accepted the U.S. Presidential Medal of Honor on her husband’s behalf during a ceremony at the White House Rose Garden last month. Fighting back tears, she shared a birthday message from their daughter. “Happy birthday Daddy, I want to give you a stuffed animal. I want to eat a cupcake with ice cream and I want you to come home for a birthday surprise. I love you,” she read, highlighting the deep bond between father and daughter.

Continuing the Legacy

Following Charlie’s passing, Erika Kirk stepped into the role of leader at Turning Point USA, vowing to honor his legacy and carry forward his mission. “If you thought that my husband’s mission was powerful before, you have no idea,” she asserted during a memorial broadcast of Charlie’s podcast. “You have no idea what you just have unleashed across this entire country.”

As she navigates her new responsibilities, Kirk has taken the opportunity to counsel young couples on family planning. “Especially if you’re a young woman, don’t put it off. You can always have a career, you can always go back to work. You can never just go back to having children,” she advised. Her message comes from a place of personal experience, underscoring the fleeting nature of time with loved ones.

Erika Kirk’s story resonates beyond her personal loss, touching on themes of resilience, hope, and the importance of family in the face of unimaginable grief. As she continues to advocate for her late husband’s ideals, her journey serves as a reminder of the enduring impact of love and legacy.
