Ireland Sets October 24 for Presidential Election Polls

Ireland will hold its presidential election on October 24, 2025, marking the end of Michael D. Higgins‘s 14-year tenure in office. The official announcement was made by James Browne, the Minister for Housing and Local Government, who will sign the presidential order to formalize the polling day on Wednesday.
The election landscape is beginning to take shape. Heather Humphreys, a former minister, has been confirmed as the sole nominee for the Fine Gael party. Her candidacy positions her as a prominent figure in the race, aiming to appeal to a broad base of voters.
Support is also building for potential candidates from other political factions. Charlie McConalogue, the Minister of State from Donegal, has voiced his support for Jim Gavin, the former manager of Dublin’s Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) team, to represent Fianna Fáil in the upcoming election. This endorsement underscores Gavin’s influence and popularity within the party.
Fianna Fáil plans to convene on September 9, 2025, to select its official candidate, which will be a crucial moment in shaping the election dynamics. The choice of whom to put forward could significantly impact the party’s standing in the polls.
As the election date approaches, the political landscape in Ireland is likely to evolve further, with candidates refining their platforms and reaching out to voters across the nation. The outcome will determine who will assume the presidency and lead Ireland forward in the coming years.
