Limerick Comedians Compete in Tribute Comedy Competitions

The vibrant comedy scene in Limerick is set to come alive this month with a series of competitions organized by the Four Corners Comedy Club. These events aim to showcase both emerging and established talent, providing local comedians with a platform to entertain and compete.

The first competition is designed for performers who have been on stage for less than two years. It commenced on October 6, 2023, and will continue on October 13, 2023, in The Old Quarter. The final round of this competition is scheduled to take place at Sextons on October 20, 2023. This event is named in honour of John Mulligan‘s mother, Mar Flynn, who passed away last year. Mulligan expressed his profound gratitude for her influence on his life, stating, “She was a very funny lady with a great sense of humour and I promised her that if I organised a competition, I would name it for her.”

For more experienced comedians, there will be a separate competition held over three consecutive Thursday nights at Katy Dalys on October 16, 2023, October 23, 2023, and October 30, 2023. This event is dedicated to Leslie-Anne Liddane, who was instrumental in founding the first comedy nights in the venue and sadly passed away in 2020. Each evening will feature performances from established stand-up comedians from across the country while judges deliberate on the contestants’ performances.

Participants in both competitions will be vying for trophies and cash prizes. Entry to the newcomers’ competition is free or by donation, while a cover charge of €5 will apply for each of the Thursday events at Katy Dalys.
