Russian Strikes Target Kharkiv Hospital Amid Zelenskyy’s Aid Call

Russian forces launched a series of strikes on the city of Kharkiv overnight, damaging a hospital and injuring at least seven individuals. This attack underscores the ongoing threat posed by long-range Russian military operations as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy once again called for increased foreign military assistance, particularly in the form of air defence systems.

Decline in European Military Aid

Recent data from the Kiel Institute for the Study of World Economy indicates a marked decline in military assistance to Ukraine, with foreign military aid dropping by 43% compared to the first half of the year. This reduction coincides with the establishment of a funding mechanism known as the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), which pools contributions from NATO members, excluding the United States, to procure US-made weapons, munitions, and equipment for Ukraine.

Despite the reduced support from European allies, the institute noted that military assistance in the first half of 2025 had surpassed total contributions made between 2022 and 2024. This discrepancy highlights the complexities of military logistics and support during an ongoing conflict.
