Construction Launches for Derry’s £15 Million DNA Museum

Construction has officially begun on the North Atlantic DNA Museum in Derry, a significant project valued at £15 million. This new cultural institution, set to be located in Ebrington Square, aims to showcase the rich history of the North West of Ireland through a variety of artefacts and collections.
The appointed contractor, McKelvey Construction Ltd., mobilised on-site this week to initiate the development. Once completed, the museum will not only serve as a dynamic cultural venue but is also expected to create 14 jobs in the local community.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Ruairi McHugh, highlighted the museum’s importance within the broader City Deal Plan for Derry and Strabane. He stated that the museum will be a vital cultural asset, enhancing the experience for visitors while celebrating the region’s heritage.
The North Atlantic DNA Museum aims to draw attention to the unique historical narratives and cultural contributions of the area. Its establishment is anticipated to boost tourism and provide educational opportunities, creating a space where both locals and visitors can engage with the region’s past.
As construction progresses, the community looks forward to the potential benefits this project will bring. The museum is expected to become a focal point for cultural activities and a hub for learning, further enriching Derry’s cultural landscape.
With construction now underway, stakeholders remain optimistic about the future impact of the North Atlantic DNA Museum, which promises to be a cornerstone of Derry’s cultural identity.
