Ruben Amorim has expressed doubts about his future at Manchester United during his inaugural year as head coach. This Saturday, he will mark one year since agreeing to lead the club as they face Nottingham Forest, aiming to bolster their bid for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Amorim’s first year has been challenging. Since his arrival from Sporting, Manchester United has struggled, finishing in 15th place last season and suffering a defeat in the Europa League final. The team has also had a rocky start this season, winning only one of their first five matches, which led Amorim to question whether he would reach the one-year milestone in his role.

“It’s hard to say that. Sometimes, in some moments,” he remarked. “There were some moments that were tough to deal with, to lose so many games. That was so hard for me because this is Manchester United.”

He emphasized the significance of the previous season, where the focus was heavily placed on the Europa League without securing any trophies. “That was massive,” Amorim stated. “I had some moments that I struggled a lot and I was thinking that maybe it’s not meant to be.”

Despite these challenges, Amorim now feels more optimistic about his future at the club. “Today, I feel and I know that was the best decision in my life. I want to be here but for that, I need to win against Nottingham Forest,” he affirmed.

As United gears up for the match against Nottingham Forest, Amorim is experiencing a resurgence in form, with the team winning five of their last seven league fixtures, including key victories over Chelsea and Liverpool. This uptick in performance places United in a stronger position to qualify for European competition.

Amorim remains cautious, though, and refrains from declaring that the difficult times are behind him. “It’s hard to say. We need to think positively, but we also need to be prepared that football is up and down,” he stated. “I trust in my players more. I think they trust me more. That will come with wins.”

He acknowledged the current progress but noted the importance of maintaining focus. “I can say that we are a better team at this moment, and we feel that and we know that,” he added. “That can help us to overcome better the bad moments.”

Amorim also addressed comments made by Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche, who suggested he could achieve better results with United playing a 4-4-2 formation. Dyche’s remarks came during a period when he was out of work, stating, “I may get hammered for it, but I bet I could win more games with that squad playing a 4-4-2.”

In response, Amorim acknowledged the merits of Dyche’s perspective but defended his own approach to coaching. “I always say that I have a way of playing that is going to take a while, and then in the future, it is going to be better,” he explained.

He respected Dyche as a fellow manager but highlighted the distinction between analyzing a team from the outside and coaching one. “It’s a different job,” Amorim noted. “I know Sean Dyche is smart and he knows how to play the game.”

Dyche later clarified his comments, emphasizing that he did not question Amorim’s capabilities. “Clickbait kills everything; it changes the whole story,” he remarked. He suggested that Amorim should be given time to implement his strategies at United, noting that management often involves adapting to immediate challenges.

As Amorim prepares for this significant match against Nottingham Forest, the stakes are high. The outcome could significantly influence not only the club’s position in the league but also Amorim’s future at Manchester United.
