Anthony Stokes Joins Conor McGregor’s Black Forge FC After Legal Battles

Former Irish footballer Anthony Stokes has signed with Conor McGregor’s pub team, Black Forge FC, marking a significant return to the sport. Stokes, who previously represented the Republic of Ireland and played for Celtic, has faced a tumultuous period in his life, including a series of legal issues. His last professional appearance was in 2020 with Livingston.
The 37-year-old forward has recently regained his freedom after having a jail sentence related to drug dealing and dangerous driving overturned on appeal. Stokes is now eager to make an impact on the pitch once again. He announced the news of his transfer via Instagram, humorously stating, “Better get the dust knocked off the boots.”
Stokes has had a dramatic and concerning history over the past few years that includes multiple run-ins with the law. In 2013, he received a two-year suspended sentence after he headbutted another man in a Dublin nightclub, followed by a guilty plea for assault causing harm. As a result, he was ordered to pay damages of €230,000 to the victim, Anthony Bradley, after a High Court ruling.
His legal troubles continued with a stalking campaign against his former partner, Eilidh Scott. Reports indicate that he sent her up to 100 abusive messages daily, including insults and threats, and even appeared at her home unannounced. This behavior led to a four-year restraining order that prohibited him from contacting her or her family.
In 2022, Stokes faced further consequences for breaching court orders related to his harassment charges, resulting in a five-month prison sentence. Additionally, he was involved in a high-speed car chase while under the influence of alcohol, which culminated in a seizure of cocaine valued at €3,700. He was sentenced to 15 months behind bars in October 2022, but after appealing, he received a suspended sentence and a community service order, alongside a five-year driving ban.
As Stokes joins Black Forge FC, the team is looking to bolster its offensive lineup. McGregor recently participated in the AUL Challenge Cup final for the team, and the addition of Stokes is anticipated to bring much-needed experience and skill to the squad.
Fans and analysts will be watching closely as Stokes attempts to redeem himself on the football field. His signing not only adds a controversial figure to the team but also raises questions about the impact of his troubled past on his future in the sport. The coming season promises to be an interesting one for Black Forge FC as they navigate both the challenges and opportunities presented by this new acquisition.
