Archie Ryan Shines with Fourth Place Finish at Vuelta a España

Irish cyclist Archie Ryan achieved a significant milestone during stage 10 of the Vuelta a España, finishing in fourth place. This performance marked a career-best for Ryan, who had recently secured his first top-10 finish in a Grand Tour event. The stage, which covered 175 kilometres from Sendaviva nature park to the Larra-Belagua ski resort, showcased Ryan’s impressive form as part of a breakaway group.
Australian rider Jay Vine claimed his second stage victory of this year’s Vuelta, demonstrating exceptional strength on the final climb. He crossed the finish line ahead of Spanish cyclists Pablo Castrillo and Javier Romo, with Ryan trailing by 1 minute and 5 seconds. Ireland’s Eddie Dunbar finished the stage in 39th place, arriving 4 minutes and 58 seconds after Vine.
The overall race leader is now Jonas Vingegaard, who moved ahead of Norwegian competitor Torstein Traen to lead the general classification by 26 seconds. Joao Almeida follows in third place, 38 seconds behind Vingegaard.
The stage began with multiple attackers attempting to break away from the peloton but were ultimately unsuccessful. Vine made an early move, gaining a slight lead before being caught after 75 kilometres. A larger breakaway formed midway through the race, which managed to build a three-minute advantage on the peloton.
As the race progressed, Vine surged ahead during the day’s main climb to the ski resort, finishing with his arm raised in victory. Castrillo followed him in 35 seconds later, demonstrating the competitive spirit of the stage.
Looking ahead, stage 11 promises to be another challenging day for the riders. It will take place on Wednesday, featuring a moderately mountainous route that starts and ends in Bilbao, traversing 157 kilometres through the lush Basque Country. The stage includes several short but steep climbs, ensuring that the competition remains fierce as the Vuelta continues.
