Caroline Currid Returns to Limerick Hurling Team Ahead of 2026 Season
Caroline Currid is set to rejoin the Limerick senior hurling backroom team ahead of the 2026 season. According to the Irish Examiner, the esteemed sports psychologist will work alongside manager John Kiely for the upcoming season. This marks a significant development for the Limerick team, as they have yet to secure an All-Ireland title without Currid’s involvement in the backroom team.
Currid has been instrumental in Limerick’s recent successes. She was part of the coaching staff in 2018 when Limerick ended a 45-year drought for the Liam McCarthy Cup. Although she was not involved in the 2019 season, her return from 2020 to 2023 saw Limerick achieve remarkable heights, winning a total of four All-Ireland titles and four Munster championships during that period. After stepping away from the team in 2023, Currid continued to make her mark by assisting Maigh Cuilinn in their victory in the Galway Senior Football Championship.
Former Players Transition to Management
In another notable development, former Limerick hurling star Seamus Flanagan is taking his first step into management with the Tipperary club Boherlahan/Dualla. Flanagan was not selected for the 2026 Limerick senior hurling squad under manager Kiely and was released from the panel along with teammates Jason Gillane, Micheál Houlihan, Fergal O’Connor, and Cian Scully.
As the new season approaches, Limerick is also preparing for a special challenge game against their longstanding rivals Tipperary. This match is set to take place in support of the Dillon Quirke Foundation on December 13, 2025, at Fethard Town Park at 18:00.
Limerick will kick off their Co-Op Superstores Munster Senior Hurling League campaign against Clare on January 3, 2026. The reigning All-Ireland champions will also host Cork in their second league match on January 7, 2026, at a venue in Limerick.
As the 2026 season approaches, the return of Caroline Currid to the Limerick hurling setup underlines the team’s commitment to maintaining its competitive edge in the sport.
