Clare GAA has expressed profound sadness following the sudden death of former footballer and coach Noel Normoyle, who passed away on August 22, 2023. Normoyle, a dedicated member of the Clare community for over 40 years, is remembered for his significant contributions both on and off the field.

Born in Kilmihil, Normoyle was a key player in the Clare team that secured the Munster Championship title in 1992. His football career also included a distinguished tenure with his local club, Kilmihil, where he won numerous titles, including Minor, U21, and Senior County Championships, alongside a Cusack Cup. Ten years prior to the Munster victory, he earned a Railway Cup medal with the Munster team, showcasing his exceptional talent in the sport.

After retiring from competitive play, Normoyle continued to influence the game as a coach with Eire Og. His expertise and passion for football greatly impacted the club, contributing to their Senior Championship win in 2000 and their Minor Championship victory in 2012. Clare GAA acknowledged his lasting legacy in a heartfelt statement, noting that his “commitment and talent shone” throughout his career.

In a tribute posted on social media, Clare GAA remarked, “The Clare GAA community is deeply saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Noel Normoyle.” They highlighted his achievements and the respect he garnered within the community, extending condolences to his family, friends, and all who are mourning his loss. The statement concluded with, “His contribution to both club and county will be long remembered with gratitude and respect.”

Kilmihil GAA, Normoyle’s hometown club, also shared their sorrow, calling him “a true Kilmihil and Clare football man.” They emphasized his loyalty to both his club and county, underscoring that his love for the game will never be forgotten.

Normoyle is survived by his beloved wife, Vinnie, and his children, Michelle and her husband Brian, Ciara, and Jack with his partner Megan. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Annie, Róisín, and Ógie, along with his brothers and sisters, extended family, and many friends.

His funeral service is scheduled to take place at Ennis Cathedral on Friday, August 25, 2023, a fitting tribute to a man whose impact on Clare football will resonate for generations to come.
