Community Climate Action Fund Launches Grant Opportunity for Clubs
The Community Climate Action Programme grant is now open for applications from October 20, 2025, until December 22, 2025. Managed by local authorities across the Republic of Ireland, this fund targets not-for-profit community organizations, including sports clubs, charities, and community halls, to implement various climate action initiatives. This initiative presents a significant opportunity for cricket clubs and similar organizations to secure funding for projects aimed at enhancing sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.
Community organizations can apply for grants that fall into three categories: small grants up to €20,000, medium grants up to €50,000, and large grants reaching €100,000. Potential projects eligible for funding encompass a range of climate-friendly actions, including but not limited to the installation of solar panels, upgrading lighting systems, improving building insulation, and enhancing infrastructure for bicycles.
Project Ideas and Requirements
Successful applications must clearly outline how each project will contribute to lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Specific examples of eligible projects include:
– Installation of solar panels to harness renewable energy.
– Upgrading lighting to energy-efficient systems.
– Insulating buildings to improve energy conservation.
– Developing bicycle infrastructure to promote healthier lifestyles.
– Installing water bottle refill stations to reduce plastic waste.
– Creating habitats by planting trees or establishing ponds.
– Implementing systems for rainwater harvesting and rain gardens to mitigate flooding risks.
Organizations interested in applying should contact the Community Climate Action Officer at their local authority to express their interest in the fund. Information on local officers can be found on the official government website.
This initiative not only supports clubs in enhancing their facilities but also encourages them to take active roles in combating climate change. By participating, community organizations can contribute to a more sustainable future while improving their local environments.
