Dromoland Castle Nears Full Capacity for Ryder Cup 2027
The prestigious five-star Dromoland Castle in County Clare is rapidly approaching full capacity for the Ryder Cup, scheduled for September 2027 at Adare Manor in Limerick. General Manager Mark McSorley confirmed that the resort currently has “only a few rooms left” available during this high-profile event, highlighting the growing demand for accommodations in the area.
In a recent statement, McSorley noted that Dromoland Castle experienced a record-breaking year in 2024, with operating profits increasing by 20 percent to €2.42 million. The resort’s financial success reflects a broader trend, as revenues rose by 6 percent, from €31.4 million to €33.43 million in the same year. These figures include income from both Dromoland Castle and the adjoining three-star Inn at Dromoland.
Strong Performance and Future Projections
McSorley, who took on the role of General Manager in February 2024, expressed optimism for the coming years. “2025 is shaping up to be another bumper year and is on course to surpass the 2024 performance,” he said. The average room rates during peak summer months are expected to range from €1,200 to €2,500 per night, reflecting the resort’s premium offerings. He added that the average room rate throughout the year is around €650.
In 2024, Dromoland Castle entered into a partnership with Ryder Cup sponsors, securing accommodations for the anticipated influx of visitors. When asked about the pricing for Ryder Cup bookings, McSorley indicated that while the rates are elevated compared to the usual September pricing, they are “nothing outrageous.”
Revenue Breakdown and Market Insights
The revenue breakout from the resort’s accounts reveals a robust performance across various sectors. Room revenue increased by 5.5 percent, rising from €17.45 million to €18.42 million. Additionally, food and drink revenues surged by 10.5 percent, moving from €10.73 million to €11.38 million. Other income sources, including golf, leisure, and the spa, also reported an increase of 10.5 percent, from €2.95 million to €3.26 million.
A significant portion of the resort’s revenue—approximately 65 percent—is attributed to the US market, showcasing its appeal to international visitors. Prior to joining Dromoland Castle, McSorley held the position of General Manager of Hotel and Residences at Quinta do Lago in Portugal’s Algarve region. With over two decades of experience in the hospitality industry, he is well-equipped to lead the resort into a prosperous future.
As Dromoland Castle prepares for the Ryder Cup, the combination of luxury accommodations and strong financial performance positions it as a prime destination for golf enthusiasts and travelers alike. With limited availability, potential guests are encouraged to explore booking options soon to secure their stay during this prestigious event.
