Jack Draper Appoints Jamie Delgado as Lead Coach in Team Shake-Up
British tennis player Jack Draper has announced a significant change to his coaching team by appointing Jamie Delgado, former coach of Andy Murray, as his new lead coach. This decision marks a pivotal moment for Draper, who has worked closely with James Trotman for an extended period. Although Trotman will maintain a role in Draper’s coaching setup, Delgado will take on the primary coaching responsibilities and will accompany Draper to most tournaments.
Delgado, a former player in the British Davis Cup team, is well-respected in the tennis community. He holds the record for the most consecutive appearances at Wimbledon with 23. His coaching career gained prominence during his collaboration with Murray, which began in 2016. Delgado was instrumental during Murray’s most successful years, working alongside renowned coach Ivan Lendl. He remained part of Murray’s team until the end of the 2021 season and has since coached notable players including Denis Shapovalov and Grigor Dimitrov, both of whom spoke highly of Delgado’s influence on their careers.
As Draper transitions to this new chapter, he is also focused on his recovery from a left arm injury that has limited him to just one match since his exit from Wimbledon. Following a disappointing second-round defeat at the All England Club, Draper was diagnosed with bone bruising. An attempt to return at the US Open ended prematurely when he withdrew before his scheduled second-round match, ultimately concluding his season early. This injury setback has resulted in Draper slipping to eighth in the ATP rankings.
Draper is set to make his return to competitive play at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown Grand Final in London, scheduled for December 5-7, 2025. He has received a wild card for this event, which marks his comeback after a challenging period. The 23-year-old previously won the UTS Grand Final in 2023 and is eager to reclaim his position in the sport.
As Draper prepares for this pivotal tournament, he will look to rebuild momentum and take advantage of the fresh perspective Delgado brings to his training. The combination of Draper’s talent and Delgado’s experience could prove to be a formidable partnership as the young player looks to ascend the ranks in men’s tennis.
With the ATP Finals now out of reach for this season, Draper’s focus remains on recovery and preparation for future challenges, aiming to return stronger in the upcoming year.
