Kilkenny GAA has announced the appointment of Gordon Byrne as the new manager of the county’s minor hurling team. The decision was made during a meeting of the Kilkenny County Board on the evening of March 11, 2024. Byrne takes over from Niall Bergin, who stepped down from the role in July 2023 after a successful four-year tenure that included winning Leinster titles in both 2022 and 2023.

Byrne, representing Erin’s Own, will lead a newly established management team comprised of seven individuals. This includes two Lead Coaches and two Selectors/Coaches, all of whom will support him in preparing the team for the upcoming season.

In a statement released by the Kilkenny County Board, they expressed confidence in Byrne’s ability to lead the minor hurling squad. The board stated, “Kilkenny County Board wishes Gordon and his team the very best of luck for the season ahead.”

With Byrne at the helm, Kilkenny GAA aims to build on the successes of the past few years and continue fostering talent within the county. The new management structure suggests a strategic approach to developing young players and enhancing the performance of the minor team.

As the 2024 hurling season approaches, all eyes will be on Kilkenny to see how the new management team will impact the development of the county’s future stars.
