Lottie Woad Struggles in First Round at NW Arkansas Championship
Lottie Woad faced challenges in her opening round at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, finishing with a score of two-over-par 73. The 21-year-old English golfer began her round on the 10th hole at Pinnacle Country Club, where she encountered a rollercoaster performance featuring three birdies and five bogeys. Her struggles intensified when she dropped three consecutive shots starting from the 12th hole, followed by back-to-back bogeys at the fourth and fifth holes.
In contrast, Leona Maguire of Ireland delivered an impressive performance, carding a seven-under-par 64 that propelled her into contention. Notably, Maguire did not record any bogeys during her round. A remarkable stretch of five birdies in seven holes allowed her to climb the leaderboard, leaving her just one stroke behind early joint-leaders Minami Katsu and Sarah Schmelzel.
Another notable competitor, Jodi Ewart Shadoff, finished with a three-under-par 68, though she regretted a bogey on the par-four 16th hole, which marred an otherwise solid round. Meanwhile, Caley McGinty managed an even-par round of 71, despite suffering a double-bogey seven on the 14th hole, which proved costly.
World No. 2 Nelly Korda also had a respectable outing, finishing two-under-par with a score of 69. The competition at the 54-hole Walmart NW Arkansas Championship continues, with the second round scheduled for Friday, September 19, 2023.
Golf fans can watch the ongoing championship live on Sky Sports Golf starting from 21:00 local time. The tournament promises to showcase exciting performances as players vie for the title and valuable ranking points on the LPGA Tour.
