McIlroy and Lowry Reap Major Rewards from PGA Tour Season
Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry have experienced remarkable financial success during the 2025 PGA Tour season, collectively earning over €24 million. Their impressive earnings highlight their status as elite golfers, particularly as they prepare for the upcoming Ryder Cup.
McIlroy, who achieved the career Grand Slam at the Masters Tournament in Augusta this past April, has amassed a staggering $16,992,418 (€15.8 million) from just 16 events. This season, the Northern Irish golfer secured three victories and eight top-10 finishes, demonstrating his consistency and skill on the course.
Lowry, hailing from Offaly, has also had a profitable season despite not claiming a tournament victory. The 2019 Open champion earned $7,082,794 (€6.6 million) across 20 events. His performance included two runner-up finishes, one of which was against McIlroy at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, as well as four top-10 placements.
Both golfers qualified for the prestigious Tour Championship held at East Lake Golf Club in Georgia, which features the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings. McIlroy finished in 23rd place, while Lowry claimed 13th. This year marked a change in the Tour Championship format, adding further excitement to the competition.
Tommy Fleetwood of England emerged as the FedEx Cup champion, securing his first PGA Tour victory and taking home a significant $10 million prize after a successful final round. Fleetwood’s performance throughout the season was noteworthy, as he missed only one cut. Lowry, on the other hand, advanced to the weekend in 17 of his 20 starts, showcasing his competitive edge.
As both players shift their focus to the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, McIlroy has already secured his spot on Team Europe. In contrast, Lowry is awaiting a captain’s pick after narrowly missing the last automatic qualification spot, which went to Rasmus Hojgaard.
Looking back at McIlroy’s standout performances this season, he claimed victories at several prestigious events, including the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where he triumphed over Lowry by two strokes. He also won the Players Championship in a playoff against J.J. Spaun, and his impressive run culminated in his Masters victory, where he clinched his fifth major title in a playoff against Justin Rose.
The upcoming Ryder Cup will provide both McIlroy and Lowry with an opportunity to showcase their talents on an international stage and contribute to Team Europe’s efforts. As they transition from individual success to team dynamics, the anticipation builds for what promises to be an exciting tournament.
