Mo Salah Criticizes Liverpool Management Amid Exit Speculation
Mo Salah expressed deep frustration with Liverpool FC and head coach Arne Slot following his omission from the starting lineup for the third consecutive match. Speaking after a disappointing 3-3 draw against Leeds United, the 33-year-old forward suggested that he feels scapegoated for the team’s struggles in their title defense. Salah indicated that he may have played his last game for the club, raising questions about his future at Anfield.
Salah’s comments came after a match where Liverpool squandered a two-goal lead, leaving him frustrated as an unused substitute. “I can’t believe I’m sitting on the bench for 90 minutes. I think it’s the third time I’m on the bench; it’s the first time in my career,” he remarked to reporters. His disappointment was palpable as he reflected on his contributions to the club, stating, “I’ve done so much for the club, everybody can see that during the years, especially last season.”
In his candid assessment, Salah accused the club of failing to uphold promises made to him during the summer transfer window. “It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus, that’s how I feel,” he said. He further emphasized, “It’s very clear that someone wants me to get all the blame.” Salah’s comments suggest a breakdown in his relationship with the management, as he noted, “I had good relations with the manager, and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship.”
Since joining Liverpool from Chelsea in 2017, Salah has scored an impressive 250 goals. He signed a new contract in April 2023, but reports of a fallout with Slot have attracted the interest of wealthy clubs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, who may attempt to lure him away from Liverpool with lucrative offers.
As he prepares for international duty at the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON), Salah mentioned the possibility of saying goodbye to Liverpool fans after the Premier League match against Brighton. “I called my mum and said, ‘Come to the Brighton game. It doesn’t matter if I play or not; I’m going to enjoy it,'” he shared.
Despite his current frustration, Salah reiterated his love for the club, stating, “I will always support this club; I love the club and always will. What has happened is not acceptable.” He expressed confusion over his situation, asserting, “I don’t know why I am in this situation now. I don’t think I’m the problem. I’ve done so much for this club.”
Reflecting on the recent match, Salah stated, “It’s funny, but I couldn’t believe it. It is a very disappointing result for us as a team.” He acknowledged that the team needs to improve defensively, saying, “We have to try to keep clean sheets and win games.”
Salah’s future remains uncertain, with his recent comments sparking speculation about a potential exit from Liverpool. As the team navigates a challenging season, the club’s management will need to address the growing concerns surrounding one of its most iconic players.
