Nottingham Forest has appointed former Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach, following the dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo. As reported by Sky Sports News, Postecoglou has signed a two-year contract at the City Ground. This decision comes just three months after his departure from Spurs, where he notably led the team to victory in the Europa League, ending a 17-year trophy drought for the club.

Postecoglou’s appointment follows a tumultuous period for Nottingham Forest. Nuno was sacked late on Monday night after a breakdown in his relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis. Reports indicate that Nuno himself sought to leave the position amid growing tensions. Marinakis, who has long admired Postecoglou due to his Greek heritage, quickly identified him as the prime candidate for the role.

In a statement regarding the new appointment, Marinakis emphasized Postecoglou’s proven track record, stating, “We are bringing a coach to the club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies.” He noted that Postecoglou’s experience at the highest levels of football aligns perfectly with Forest’s ambitions.

As Postecoglou prepares to take the reins, his first challenge will be against Arsenal in the Premier League, scheduled for Saturday lunchtime. His initial matches as head coach will predominantly be away games, with his home debut not occurring until September 27, when Forest faces Sunderland.

The 60-year-old Australian manager spent two seasons at Tottenham, where he won the Europa League but was ultimately dismissed after a disappointing season, finishing 17th in the Premier League with 22 losses in 38 matches. His short tenure culminated in his sacking just 16 days after the club celebrated their first European trophy in 41 years.

Following his departure, Marinakis honored Postecoglou with a special award in Greece, recognizing him as the first coach of Greek descent to win a European trophy in men’s football. Marinakis remarked, “He achieved it with a team that was not winning titles and was struggling. With this success, he made Greece proud.”
