Rob Slevin has officially signed with Derry City, marking a significant addition to the team. The 27-year-old defender, previously with Galway United, has committed to a three-year contract at the club’s home ground, the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium. This signing comes just weeks after Derry City secured midfielder Darragh Markey from Drogheda United.

Slevin’s career has seen him develop into a reliable defender, with more than 100 appearances for Galway United over three seasons. His tenure with Finn Harps included over 30 matches, showcasing his ability to perform consistently at a competitive level. Notably, he was part of the Galway side that won the First Division title in 2023, which led to their promotion to the Premier Division.

During the previous season, Slevin featured prominently, appearing 39 times across both league and cup competitions. His experience and skills are expected to bolster Derry City’s defensive line as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Potential Venue Shift for Home Games

In addition to the new signing, discussions are underway regarding the potential relocation of some Derry City home games to Celtic Park next season. This consideration arises due to planned renovations to the Brandywell’s pitch, which will see the installation of a hybrid grass surface starting in April 2026.

Reports indicate that Derry City is in talks with the Derry County Board about using Celtic Park, which is primarily a GAA venue, for several fixtures during the season. This move would allow the team to continue playing at home while renovations take place, ensuring that fans can still support their team in a familiar environment.

As Derry City prepares for the new season, the club continues to make strategic decisions aimed at enhancing both player performance and fan experience. The addition of Rob Slevin and the potential shift to Celtic Park demonstrate the club’s commitment to achieving success on and off the pitch.
