Ruben Amorim Embraces New Mindset as Manchester United Rebuilds

Ruben Amorim has expressed optimism about Manchester United’s prospects following a challenging previous season. The Portuguese manager highlighted a significant shift in mindset within his squad after their recent performance in the Premier League opener against Arsenal on July 30, 2023. Despite suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat due to a mistake by goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, Amorim noted that the team’s overall performance has shown improvement.
The match against Arsenal marked the beginning of a new chapter for Manchester United, which had an unbeaten pre-season under Amorim’s guidance. The manager emphasized the importance of maintaining high performance levels as the team rebuilds. He stated, “Last year, sometimes I was worried going to the games, but now I’m excited; it is completely different.” This sentiment reflects a renewed sense of confidence as United prepares for the challenges ahead.
Amorim’s approach this season is supported by new signings, including Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, who are expected to invigorate the squad. He believes these players will not only contribute on the pitch but also enhance the team’s spirit off it. “They are coming in at a moment where the spirit is different,” he explained. “Sometimes we have a lot of very good players, but the scars were there and that influenced the dynamic of the team.”
Fostering Positivity and Resilience
In his efforts to cultivate a positive atmosphere, Amorim has advised his players to avoid engaging with external criticism. Addressing the pressures of public scrutiny, he stated, “The first thing I’ve already said to my players is when you see so many critics, you get upset, and that is normal.” He encourages them to focus on their performance and personal well-being instead of worrying about negative narratives.
He likened the mental fortitude required to that of a monk, urging his players to concentrate on their work and family life while steering clear of distractions from social media and television. “Altay made one mistake, but last year he had very good performances,” Amorim remarked, highlighting the need to recognize individual contributions rather than dwell on isolated errors.
This proactive mindset aims to help the squad manage external pressures and build resilience, fostering a more cohesive and confident unit as they progress through the season. The positive reaction to the match against Arsenal indicates that the team’s spirit is on the rise, providing a promising foundation for future matches.
As Manchester United continues its journey under Amorim’s leadership, the focus will remain on performance and personal growth, with the hope that the new signings will further enhance the team’s dynamics. With a fresh perspective and a commitment to overcoming past challenges, Amorim is determined to lead the Red Devils into a successful season.
