Shane Lowry Celebrates Ryder Cup Captain’s Pick from Luke Donald
Shane Lowry expressed his excitement after being selected as one of the captain’s picks for the upcoming Ryder Cup, set to take place from September 26 to 28, 2025, at Bethpage Black in New York. European captain Luke Donald announced his six wildcard selections, alongside the six players who secured their spots through their performance in the 2025 World Tour.
Lowry, a veteran of Team Europe and known for his emotional leadership, was the first name revealed by Donald. This early announcement brought relief to Irish fans as the anticipation for the prestigious golf tournament builds. Donald praised Lowry, stating, “He is a man whose passion for the Ryder Cup is second to none… he understands team above everything else.”
After receiving the news, Lowry took a moment to express gratitude towards Donald for the trust placed in him. He shared, “It’s unbelievable, it’s been a stressful few weeks, a stressful year trying to make the team. Hopefully, I can repay him by producing the goods in a few weeks’ time.”
The excitement was palpable as Lowry later took to social media, posting a succinct six-word message: “Ready to give it my all.” This rallying cry reflects his determination as the tournament approaches.
Joining Lowry in the captain’s picks are notable players including Jon Rahm, Sepp Straka, Viktor Hovland, Ludvig Aberg, and Matt Fitzpatrick. They will complement the six automatic qualifiers who earned their places through their performances: Rory McIlroy, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Rasmus Hojgaard, and Tyrrell Hatton.
Despite fielding a strong team, Europe faces a challenging battle, as the home team historically enjoys an advantage in this biennial competition. Team USA has assembled a formidable lineup that includes stars such as Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Justin Thomas, among others.
As the Ryder Cup draws near, all eyes will be on the competitors as they prepare to showcase their skills at one of golf’s most revered events. For Lowry and his team, the focus will be not only on individual performance but also on the collective strength of Team Europe in their quest to reclaim the trophy.
