Southampton Dismiss Manager Will Still After Poor Start
Southampton FC has parted ways with manager Will Still following a disappointing start to the Championship season. The club currently occupies the 21st position in the league, just three points above the relegation zone. This decision comes after the team managed to secure only two victories in 13 league matches, a stark contrast to their aspirations after relegation from the Premier League last season.
Still’s tenure, which began in May 2023, marked his first role in English football after leaving RC Lens in Ligue 1. His appointment was met with optimism, but results have been less than satisfactory. Southampton suffered their third consecutive defeat on Saturday, losing 2-0 at home to Preston North End. The Saints have won just once in their last 11 matches across all competitions.
The decision to dismiss Still reflects the urgency for Southampton to turn their fortunes around. The club, once a mainstay in the Premier League, is now in a precarious position as they seek to avoid further decline. The challenge ahead will be significant, as they aim to find a new manager capable of revitalizing the squad and steering them away from relegation.
As the search for a successor begins, the focus will be on restoring confidence among players and supporters alike. Southampton fans will be keen to see how the club addresses this critical juncture in their season.
More updates are expected as the club navigates this transition in leadership.
