Teo Alin Clinches BUI Celtic Title After Intense Battle with Gormley
Teo Alin emerged victorious on February 24, 2024, capturing the BUI Celtic Super Featherweight Championship in an exhilarating match against Lee Gormley in Orlando, Florida. The fight was not just a title bout; it served as a significant milestone in Alin’s career, showcasing his ability to withstand pressure and adapt in the ring.
According to Alin’s trainer, Padraig McCrory, the match was a critical step forward for Alin’s development as a fighter. “It was a real battle there for him. It was a real test. Every round was competitive,” McCrory stated. He expressed confidence in Alin’s performance, believing that the judges’ scorecards reflected his dominance. “There were tight rounds, but Teo was winning them all,” McCrory added, emphasizing the importance of the experience gained during the fight.
The match was characterized by its intensity, with Gormley proving to be a formidable opponent. McCrory noted that Gormley, known as ‘The Hammer,’ displayed unexpected resilience, absorbing significant hits while continuing to fight back. “Gormley showed a lot more than I thought he had in terms of guts and ability to take a shot,” he said. The bout kept fans engaged, with both fighters delivering a thrilling spectacle that had the audience on their feet.
Alin reflected on the challenging nature of the fight, acknowledging Gormley’s toughness. “It feels good — just feels good to get a win in a good fight. Credit to Lee. He’s tougher than I thought,” Alin commented after the match. He admitted to underestimating Gormley but expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating, “I’m just buzzing with the win — and my first title as well.”
The fight began with a back-and-forth exchange, with both fighters landing significant punches. Alin noted that the first four rounds were particularly competitive, but he found his rhythm as the match progressed. “After that, I got into my groove, Lee started to slow down a bit, and I just boxed more — it paid off,” he explained.
Despite the challenges, Alin managed to control the latter stages of the fight. He acknowledged that while he hurt Gormley at times, he struggled to land follow-up punches due to Gormley’s defensive positioning. “That’s experience — he was hurt, but he got himself into positions where I wasn’t fit to land the follow-ups,” Alin remarked.
McCrory also raised concerns about Gormley’s tactics during the match, suggesting that the referee allowed some infractions to go unpunished. He noted, “I thought the ref let him off with a lot of dirty tactics — low blows, shots behind the head. I got a bit frustrated, but it is what it is.”
As Alin celebrates his championship title, the match against Gormley serves not only as a testament to his skills but also as a learning experience that will contribute to his growth as a boxer. The victory marks a significant achievement in his career, positioning him for further opportunities in the competitive world of professional boxing.
With the win, Alin has set a strong foundation for his future as he looks to build on this success and face new challenges in the ring.
