Wissa Demands Exit from Brentford as Transfer Deadline Approaches

Yoane Wissa has publicly called on Brentford to honor their previous commitments and allow him to leave the club before the transfer deadline on August 31, 2023. The 28-year-old forward expressed his frustration in an Instagram post, stating that Brentford’s management had “significantly changed its position” regarding his potential departure. Earlier this summer, Wissa claimed that club officials had assured him he could leave if a reasonable offer was made.
In his post, Wissa highlighted that Newcastle United had submitted a bid of £35 million (approximately €40 million) plus add-ons for his services, which was rejected earlier in August. He detailed discussions held with Brentford’s senior management, including key directors and the new head coach, where he made his desire to seek new opportunities clear. “During these conversations, it was confirmed to me and my representatives that the club would not stand in my way if a reasonable offer was received,” Wissa wrote.
As the transfer window nears its conclusion, he expressed concern about the club’s change in stance. “This has left me in a difficult and frustrating position. The commitment that I could leave this summer has not been fulfilled,” he noted. Wissa emphasized the importance of making decisions that are right for his career and family, urging Brentford to “keep their word” and facilitate his move to a new club.
Brentford has yet to respond to Wissa’s public appeal. This season, he has not appeared in any matches, with head coach Keith Andrews explaining his absence by stating he wanted players who were “absolutely committed.” Reports indicated that Wissa returned early from the club’s training camp in Portugal in July after expressing his desire to join Newcastle, and he has not been training with the squad since.
Wissa further warned that being forced to stay at Brentford would tarnish what he described as “four wonderful years” at the club, appealing to the owners and directors to allow him to leave during the final hours of the transfer window.
Nicolas Jackson’s Hopes for Bayern Move Remain Alive
Meanwhile, Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson remains optimistic about a potential move to Bayern Munich, despite facing setbacks in negotiations. The 24-year-old was initially set to finalize a loan deal to the Bundesliga champions but was recalled to London after a last-minute injury to teammate Liam Delap during Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Fulham.
Reports indicate that a deal had been reached for Jackson to move to Bayern on an initial loan fee of £13 million (around €15 million), with an option for Bayern to make the deal permanent for £52 million (approximately €60 million). However, following Delap’s injury, Chelsea’s head coach Enzo Maresca made the decision to keep Jackson in London, a move that reportedly left the player furious.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed the situation, stating, “Chelsea informed us that they would like the player back after we agreed yesterday.” Jackson has yet to feature for Chelsea this season, having been informed he was not part of Maresca’s plans following recent signings, including Delap for £30 million (around €35 million) from Ipswich and Joao Pedro for £60 million (approximately €69 million) from Brighton.
As Chelsea explores potential replacements, including Sporting Lisbon’s Conrad Harder, the club faces a critical juncture with the transfer deadline approaching. Jackson’s future remains uncertain, but his representatives continue to work on resolving the impasse with Bayern.
Both Wissa and Jackson’s situations highlight the complexities and emotional toll of transfer negotiations as players seek to advance their careers in a highly competitive environment. The coming days will be crucial for both players as they navigate their respective paths before the summer transfer window closes.
