Yoane Wissa Eyes Newcastle Move Amid Brentford’s Resistance

Brentford striker Yoane Wissa remains hopeful of a transfer to Newcastle United, despite the club’s insistence that he is not for sale. Reports indicate that while Newcastle is exploring various options, they have not entirely ruled out a deal for the 28-year-old forward. The situation has become more complicated for Brentford following the departures of key players including Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard, and the resignation of head coach Thomas Frank.
Wissa expressed frustration over the lack of clarity regarding his future. He believes he was promised the opportunity to leave this summer after the exit of Ivan Toney last year. Contradictory to his beliefs, one source informed Sky Sports News that no such assurances were made regarding his potential transfer.
Brentford has already rejected multiple offers for Wissa. In the previous transfer window, they turned down approaches from Nottingham Forest and recently dismissed an offer from Newcastle valued at approximately £25 million. As a result, Wissa has reportedly decided to refrain from participating in training or games for Brentford until his future is resolved.
Wissa’s Future Uncertain as Transfer Window Closes
Brentford’s new head coach, Keith Andrews, expects Wissa to rejoin the training squad this week. Wissa returned to London early from the club’s pre-season training camp in Portugal to discuss his situation. Andrews commented on the matter, stating, “He has gone back to London. It was his decision, obviously because of speculation. There are clubs interested, and he felt it was the right thing to go back to London. It’s simple really; he folds back into the group next week when we come back to training.”
Wissa has just one year remaining on his contract, although Brentford holds an option for an additional year. The player is eager to join Newcastle, believing that this is potentially his last opportunity to compete in Champions League football, a goal he is passionate about achieving.
As the transfer window approaches its conclusion, Wissa’s situation will continue to develop, with both Newcastle and Brentford appearing to hold firm on their positions. For now, the outcome remains uncertain, but Wissa’s desire for a move is evident.
